Trauma-focused clinical supervision is a relational, reflective, and intentional process that supports clinician development while promoting ethical, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care for clients. Supervisors must balance skill-building, emotional support, and professional accountability while helping supervisees navigate the complex impacts of trauma work.

This one-day training explores the art and practice of trauma-focused clinical supervision. Participants will learn how to integrate trauma-informed principles into supervisory relationships, foster reflective practice, and support minimizing compassion fatigue. The training will also examine practical supervision strategies for discussing trauma cases and strengthening clinical decision-making.

Through interactive discussion, case examples, and applied exercises, participants will gain practical tools and frameworks for enhancing supervision with trauma-exposed populations. This training is designed for clinical supervisors who supervise mental health professionals working with children, adolescents, and adults impacted by trauma.

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe core principles of trauma-informed supervision and their relevance to supporting clinicians who work with trauma-exposed populations.
  2. Identify common impacts of trauma work on clinicians, including secondary traumatic stress, vicarious trauma, and burnout.
  3. Apply trauma-informed supervisory strategies that promote reflective practice, emotional safety, and professional growth among supervisees.
  4. Demonstrate approaches for facilitating effective case consultation and clinical decision-making related to trauma-focused treatment.
  5. Integrate culturally responsive and ethical considerations when supervising clinicians providing trauma-focused services.
  6. Develop practical strategies to support clinician resilience and sustainability in trauma-focused practice.

This training will be held at the CHJC Dining Hall from 9am to 4pm with a one-hour lunch break on your own. Please plan to arrive at 8:45a to ensure we can get signed in and settled before starting right at 9am.
